Description
Rough Opalite Quartz Chunk
Rough opalite is a man-made form of glass containing silica and quartz that mimics the appearance of natural opal gemstones. It is characterized by its milky or appearance, resembling the white part of some forms of genuine opals. Often used in jewelry crafting, rough opalite is valued for its affordability and versatility in creating vibrant and mystical designs.
Unlike glass, opalite is generally smooth to the touch, and doesn’t have the razor sharp edges of broken glass. It’s a popular stone for practising and learning the art of gem cutting due to it’s low hardness (round 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs hardness scale) compared to glass, and it’s affordability compared to high grade quartz stones like amethyst, smoky quartz and citrine.
