About 97% of the world’s opals are mined in Australia and of that 90% are white opals and only 2% are Boulder Opal.
Boulder opal consists of a base rock, usually ironstone, with opal fracture fillings. Most of this is mined around Yowah in western Queensland , a leisurely 12.5 hour drive from Brisbane.
In the middle ages people believed opal provided great luck as it possessed the energy of every gemstone whose colour was represented in the opals spectrum. |
